Diary of a First Year Instructional Coach
My Favorite PD Books
Below are some books that have helped me grow professionally as an Instructional coach and that I highly recommend to any upcoming coach!

Simply Instructional Coaching
This was the first book that I read when being hired as an Instructional Coach! This book takes you step by step through the coaching process and leaves room for reflection and planning in the question guides.
The Art of Coaching
The Art of Coaching was a great book to lay down some foundational skills and framework fro me as a new Instructional Coach.

The New Art and Science of Teaching
How can you go wrong with Marzano? This is a wonderful resource for when you are identifying goals for coaching cycles with teachers and then finding research based strategies to implement in the coaching cycle.
Better Conversations
Better Conversations by Jim Knight was a great read to help improve my coaching conversational skills to have productive conversations and be a better listener also.

Student-Centered Coaching: The Moves
Next year, my district is making a shift to student centered coaching using the Diane Sweeney model. I am so excited to start this journey of learning and focus on student data and growth. By focusing on student data, not only can Instructional Coaches improve instruction and improve teacher goals but improve student achievement. This is a great read regardless if your coaching cycles are teacher centered or student centered. Sweeney does a fantastic job of showcasing how to set goals, record data, analyze data, etc. I found her book to be a great asset to measuring success for Instructional Coaches!
